Darcel was the principal dancer on Solid Gold during her five-year reign. She
appeared on the show from '80 to '83, took a year off during '84 and rejoined
the cast in late '85. In '86, Darcel had many speaking roles on SG. She took
to the mic and regularly announced the countdown re-caps towards the end of
the show. She left the show, along with most of the other dancers, at the end
of the '86 season.
Originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Darcel moved to Hollywood as a
mature young teen and got a job dancing on television when she was only 14
years old! She lied about her age and said she was 18 in order to get the
job.
"I'm not a trained dancer that studied dance for many years," said Darcel in
a "PM Magazine" TV interview. "What I do is what I feel."
Some of Darcel's various credits include dancing with Carol Burnett, Mac
Davis, Barry Manilow and Sammy Davis, Jr. Her stage credits include the role
of "Tiger Lily" in Peter Pan starring Sandy Duncan, and Hello Dolly starring
Pearl Bailey.
Darcel also danced alongside legend Lucille Ball in the film adaptation of
the musical "Mame." Darcel wears a red hat in the opening "charleston" dance
sequence.
After she left Solid Gold, Darcel left show business and became a born-again
Christian. She's married to Glen
Leonard, a former member of the legendary Motown singing group,
"The Temptations." They have three children.
Born on June 13, Darcel stands 5'5" tall.
Quote Note - "The image I portray on Solid Gold is much different than who I
am in everyday life. I want people to know that I'm really just a regular
person."
