A self-described "fireball," Gigi started her dance training in the 10th grade at the Duke Ellington School of the Arts. She recalls how she was the worst student in her dance classes. "I didn't know what I was doing," said Gigi during a 1987 Solid Gold interview, "and my teachers told me I would never make it."
Boy were they wrong! Gigi joined the cast of Solid Gold for the show's last two seasons - Solid Gold '87 and Solid Gold: In Concert (1988). After Solid Gold, Gigi went on to appear as a dancer in the Eddie Murphy movie "Coming to America," on the WWF Slammy Awards show, and on Broadway in "The Wiz."
One of Gigis most passionate hobbies over the years was knitting. She was eight years old when she learned the hobby from her sister. Gigi often could be found knitting while waiting for her turn to dance on Solid Gold!
These days, Gigi is one of Hollywoods hottest fashion designers! She knits sexy dresses and outfits for celebrities such as Jasmine Guy, Vivica A. Fox, Jada Pinkett-Smith, Patti Labelle, Chante Moore, Tracy Edmonds, Vanessa Bell Calloway, Cree Summer, Kim Wayans, Nicole Murphy, Jennifer Lopez, Deborah Cox, Mya, Sparkle, Elise Neal, Paula Jai Parker, Garcelle, Monica Calhoun, Lisa Raye and Cookie Johnson.
"I used to knit during breaks when I was dancing on Solid Gold," said Gigi in a June 2000 Essence magazine article. "But with a great support system and God, my dream of owning my own business has become a reality."
Gigis knitwear can be purchased at stores like Nordstrom and Traffic in southern California and various stores in Detroit, Chicago, Atlanta, New York, Gary, Indiana and Virginia Beach, Florida.
On a personal note, Gigi comes from a large family -- she has four brothers and three sisters! She is the only one who dances in her family.
Quote Note - "I think that's good when you have dreams and no matter how old you are or what the limits are, if you really believe you can do it and you have belief in yourself, then I think you can do it no matter what."
