Jamilah joined the Solid Gold cast in 1985. She stayed with the show until its end in 1988. During the last two seasons, Jamilah seemed to assume the role of "principle dancer" though the formal title was never given to her in the credits.

A northern California native, Jamilah grew up in the Bay area. She began dancing at the age of four when she tried to mimic the dancers on her home television screen. She went on to study ballet, tap and acrobatic dance, performing with companies throughout the California region. [source: Solid Gold press kit]

After graduating from San Francisco State, Jamilah joined a San Francisco company for "Don't Bother Me I Can't Cope" and later "Evolution of the Blues." Moving to Los Angeles, she auditioned for the MGM Grand production "Hallelujah Hollywood" and became a part of the company for a year. She also performed in the Los Angeles productions of "The Wiz" and "Pal Joey," as well as numerous television specials. [source: Solid Gold press kit]
